Which particular model? Anyhow, I recall a test evaluation in one of the recent issues of the Shotgun News in which the Norinco 1897 Trench Shotgun was tested. It fared well and passed with flying colors!

I also recall an ad posted by a distributor claiming that our US Gov't is not allowing China to import shotguns to us anymore! I have no idea if it's true or false.[?]

I have a Norinco 1897 Trench Shotgun, it's actually a repro of the original WWI Winchester 1897 Trench Shotgun. It's surprisingly pretty well made and so far I've fired about 100 shotshells through it without a hitch! It looks really neat and it beats paying thousands for an original Winchester.[8D]

I was playing with a couple diferent ones at the gun store the other day. The single barrel ones that run like $50 I wouldn't shoot off of a tire with a string on the trigger. 1/2 the time you closed it it didn't lock up. The double barrel ones with the exposed hammers seemed nice for $150, but I am concerned by how the barrel appears to be 2 separate pieces of steel. The chamber end for 4" seems to be one piece then they welded on another 15" of another material. The Ithica 37 clone with Ghost ring type sights seem fairly well made, but not nearly as smooth as the real thing. Over all, my biggest concern would be parts, and the fact that they aren't rated for steel shot which really makes you wonder how good the steel is.

Chinese steel can be good. I have had a Chinese air rifle about 15 years that I have shot over a thousand times. Springs and trigger pull are unchanged. For a spring type air rifle, the trigger is a very highly stressed part and on this one it is good. I have also used a lot of Chinese files which can be very good. I have found a few that were soft, not properly tempered. They lack something in quality control but their steel products can be good in my experience.
