Basic Ruger Mark II Question

Recently purchased a used Ruger Mark II. Don't know age (serial #216-55824. It was fairly dirty when I got it, but took it to the range anyway. It functioned perfectly. When I got home I decided a disassembly and cleaning was in order. I followed disassembly instructions:
1. Remove magazine, cock, safety "off", pull triger.
2. Unlatch and remove mainspring housing
3. Point muzzle up. The bolt will drop out of receiver or can
easily be removed.
Item 3 is not happening. The bolt will move back about 5/16" and stop. It is hitting something. Tried to reassemble, but the bolt pin doesn't want to go back through the bolt.
This is such a simple procedure, what could be wrong??
Didn't try forcing anything.

    Are you pulling the bolt release lever all the way out til it stops?
    It's the lever on the left side of the receiver.

    On my pistol the bolt stop lever moved up and down. It is in the down (released) position. Is it supposed to come out?
    Instructions do not mention bolt stop.

    the bolt pin must be all the way removed from the gun , if the bolt itself will not come out it sound like the hammer is in the wrong postion, tilt the firearm up even a little back towards you at the same time hold the trigger back while jigging the gun , you want the hammer to fall all the way back and the hammer strut should be towards the butt of the gun not forward of the cross pin , if the hammer and the strut are in the correct postion the bolt should just slide out

    Did as you suggested and it worked beautifully.
    I mentioned the gun was pretty dirty and who knows when (if ever) it was disassembled and cleaned. Now I'll have to give it a good soaking, wipping down, oiling and reassemble it.
    I thought it was probably something fairly simple, but I couldn't figure it out.

    You have just gotten to the fun part. Your next post will be on how to reassemble it. You will get almost done & think it is fine but then comes the fun. We will tell you the trick after you work on it for awhile.

    If you call Ruger with your serial number,they will be more than happy to send you a FREE owners manual for your new toy.Also when you call them ask for records and they can tell you when it was made.

    you're welcome , have fun with you're new toy , just watch out ! those Ruger are kind of like Lays potato chips , you just can't stop with just one [:D][:D]

    when you go to put it back together ,make sure that hammer and strut are in the same postions as when you took it apart, slide the bolt all the way in , then push the bolt pin all the way up , kind of hold it there as you start to close it ,watch to make sure the strut sit down into the little cup in the back part of the bolt pin arm , you should feel a little presure just as it locks close , if it went back together right you will be able to pull the bolt all the way open , if the strut DID NOT sit in its place then the bolt will only open part way and you will have to try again, BIG thing is watching that strut!!! good luck
