winchester mod 12? need fast help!
found a winchester mod 12 16ga 26"bbl
no bluing left, avg condition for 199.00 ser nu 96*** think that puts it about 1913-14 does that price sound about right ? think ican get it cheaper maybe. i'll be leaving the town this shotgun is in tonite and gunshop closes at 5 so any fast answers will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds OK as a retail asking price, provided it is in excellent working-shooting order, complete with no missing broken or damaged parts. Make sure it will handle the length shell you want to use. All you want and all you get is a good shooter. As you said maybe you can beat the price down a bit, all the better if you can. Go for it. 0 -
Production Run began at Serial Number 79773 and ended at #109523 for the 1915 Production Run...Came in 2 3/4"...In Good Shooting Condition, Only draw back is that the 16 gauge was never that popular here in the States...It was mainly a European Gauge ...But is still Worth $200.00...Best....

Winchester didn't offer the 16 or 20 gage guns with 2 and 3/4 in chambers until 1927. (Ref. The Greatest Hammererless Repeating Shotgun Ever Built: by D Riffle, pg 49) Average condition, if it's a cyl choked barrel maybe. Since this barrel came with a 2 and 9/16 chamber, (most gunsmiths, stamped 2 and 3/4 on the barrel if they opened it up) you will have to pay a gunsmith to open it up to accept 2 3/4 shells, that's an extra $50-$75 dollars. Then it's not original. I've seen late teen and early twenties Md 12 16 ga. go for $250-$325 here at GB in the last few months. Most people don't bid on them because of the short chamber. No rust, no pits, shiney bore, lettering all sharp and crisp, even the patten dates on the right side of the barrel, no reblue, about $85 to $150 in "average condition. Remember check that chamber!! only winchesters i got it for less than the price the buyer wanted for it and it is original chamber 2 9/16 damn! i even stoped on the way home and got a box of 2 3/4" shells, checked it after i read your post now i cant go kill a prairie chicken with it [:)] oh well i didnt get it to shoot much anyways thought it would be nice to go get a chicken with it
i am not going to have it rechambered will just put it in the gun cabinet and in maybe many years (i am young so maybe in 50 yrs) it will be worth more than what i paid for it.

ps.. are there still any shells made for it yet ? if there are i have never seen any for that chamber length.0 -
