Remington UMC 1911
Can anyone tell me how to begin researching a Remington UMC 1911? It has a two digit ser# and is not US Property marked.

Get a hold of Clawson's BIG 45 Service Pistol book and verify what you actually have first. Pay close attention to all markings and shape of parts.
Nice item to have if you can validate.
Good luck.
To die for what one believes s all very well for those so inclined, but it has always seemed to me the most vain of solutions. There is no cause worth dying for that is not better served by living L'Amour0 -
You may also want to ask the guys on the Culver Shooting Page M1911/M1911A1 Forum - www.jouster.com Someone may be familiar with that particular gun; it may be unique.

Since all Remington-UMC M1911s were made for the military (none for civilian sale), the low serial # and the lack of a "US Property" marking this pistol leads me to believe that this might be a pre-production or manufacturing prototype. If so, it probably lacks the "E.E.C." (Major Edmund E. Chapman) inspector's mark also.

Yes, & it could also be a "lunch box special", stolen from the factory. Not likely, though.
Before we let Tommy get his hopes up, the odds are that it is a Mixed Parts Mongrel that Bubba buffed the heck out of, & restamped.
Pictures would be a big help, Tommy, as would detailed a description of all parts.

To all you helpful folks. I am new at collecting GI 45s and just started with computers. This piece has been reblued and has 2 flying ducks engraved on the right side of the slide between the serrations and the words MODEL OF 1911 US ARMY CALIBER 45. Above the mag release is the eagle on E1 . Above that is E.E.C The left front of the trigger guard is stamped E I can find no markings on the blued barrel.Left side of slide has normal Rem UMC markings. I can find no evidence of buffing on left front of slide. Thankyou PS I was supposed to recieve Clawson's book today , but it did not arrive. Thankyou 0
