Does your rifle have stampings to show it was re-chambered to 7.62NATO? Many small ring Mausers were actually re-chambered to 7.62CETME, which was similar in dimensions to the 7.62NATO, but developed lower pressures.

The small ring Mausers were originally designed to shoot cartridges developing far lower pressures thatn the 7.62NATO. It is my personal opinion that the small ring Mauser action is not strong enough for the pressure developed by the 7.62NATO. It will probably also chamber .308WIN. I have no doubt it is quite dangerous to shoot .308WIN in small rings. Please use caution in shooting this rifle. Frankly, I wouldn't do it.
