.243 action
Ok many of you know that I have been debating on rather or not to change my .243. Well I have decided to leave the gun be and just put a scope on it. I am looking into just building a new gun altogether that would have the same action in it. I dont know if Remington makes an action of this size in the titanium action or not. What my question is, what other calibers(something more potent than the .243) will fit this action? Is this the same action as the WSM or maybe the newer SWSM uses?
I am having a hard time deciding on what caliber I want as well. I am thinking something along the line of a 243.ackley or 6mm somthing or other. The next step up would be a 25-06. maybe an 25-06 Ackley. I know this is a standerd length action for those rounds.I like the sound of the .25 cliber because of the bigger bullets available but still not a monster kicker like the Weatherby. Remember my goal with this is to have a super light weight gun. Any suggestions?

Well after looking at the winchester site i think I may have found my baby. They have came out with a Winchester Super Short Magnum in a .243. The thing is a real ripper for it's size(95gr@3265 or so). In their new Super Shadow model 70. The thing weighs only 6 lbs even. I would still like to get a thumbhole stock but I am pretty impressed with this gun for the money. Looks well desighned. I figure I could get it, send it to Christiansen and have the barrel turned and wrapped with carbom and shave off a good half pound or more, have it accurized and maybe even a muzzle break put on it to really tame it down to a sweet shooter.
I am also considering the 270 WSM in the same gun. it comes in at 6.75 Lbs. A bit heavyier than I want but then again its a longer barrel and after wrapped would be close to my target weight of 5.5 lbs I figure.0 -
some other calibers that fit the 243 bolt face and action,
243=6 x 51
308 7.62x51
7mm-08 7 x 51 (good flat round)
7.92x57 (8mm) fits the face, not sure if it fits the action though

You could get it rechambered to a 6mm Rem (6x57) if the action is long enough.

I am having a .243 rechambered to .260 Rem. Uses a .264 or 6.5mm bullet. Since the .243 is a necked down .308, any of the .308 derived cartridges should be workable.

That is a short action, with a standard boltface. therefore,..you could chamber AND eject 22-250, 243, 6mm,6x284, 6.5x55, 6.5x284, 257rbts, 260, 7mm-08,7x57, 308, 300 sav, 250-3000, 220 swift, and any of the ackley improved versions of the above calibers.
You can not rebarrel to a long action caliber of the same boltface,..UNLESS you are willing to remove the bolt to remove an unfired round,..as it will not fit through the ejection port, nor will it feed from the magazine. The 25-06, or anything followed by -06 will not work unless the above method of extracting non-fired rounds is used as well as using the rifle as a single shot.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
