Arab Gun Collection
Hello, I'm representing an elderly widow who is liquidating her estate. She has a collection of Arab guns (1700's-1800's) that her husband collected while stationed in Pakistan in the 50's. I'm not sure where to turn for help, any advise would be appreciated. I have pictures if anyone is interested. Thanks for reading.

Jeff,
There has not been as much of a gun market for Arab weapons as there has been an art market.
As each one is handmade and requires careful inspection, they don't internet very well.
You might be better off finding an auctioneer to give you some guidance in this matter (advertisment and venue).
Now if you find any American or European manufactured weapons in the pile, this would be a good place to bring them.
Good luck
You are your own best teacher. My advice is to question all things. Seek for answers, and when you find what seems to be an answer, question that too. L'Amour0 -
You will likely need to find a specialist to evaluate these guns. They may or may not be valuable, but they are not commonly seen here, only occasionally. They would likely have greater value outside the US, but there are likely collectors of just such rifles though it is probably a small market. Talk to some gun dealers or do on line searches for dealers of old Indian or Pakistani rifles.

Arab, Middle East, North Africa guns don't bring anywhere near the money that European guns do. I just this week looked at an auction catalog that had some very artistic fancy highly decorated pieces that they estimated to go for $1000 or less. Ordinary Arab pieces usually have some decoration on them and they are at the bottom of the scale in dealers asking prices, maybe in the $400 range, give or take a hundred. Trouble is to find someone who will buy them at those prices. Basically they are in very low demand and often sell at very distressed prices or the owner keeps them hoping to get more. Hope this helps. 0 -
There are so many Counterfits out there, that it will take a reputable Collector/Appraisor to tell You what you actually have..!
Another thing Most People don't realize is that in North Africa there are Smiths still cranking out these type of Guns..Some look good and can Fool an inexperianced collector to this very day..The Casbahs are loaded with these Tourist Guns...You can even find them in Spain and Italy....and the Spainards are the ones who get the credit for teaching the Moors and the Rest of that part of the Country how to be Gunsmiths....Talk with Mark Christian...He's tell You the same as I....
