If memeory serves.......and it sometimes DON'T......I believe the difference is in the reciever. The Mav. is alloy, the Mossys are steel.I believe the barrels are the same ,though.
    Gee,not much help,huh? sorry

I BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCES ARE LOCATION OF SAFETY 500 TANG 88 TRIGGER
GUARD AND ACTION BARS THAT CONN. PUMP TO ACTION 500 DOUBLE [ EACH SIDE ] 88 SINGLE ALSO TRIGGER GUARD ON 88 IS PLASTIC [ POLYMER ].
I DO BELIEVE THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE THE BARRELS INTERCHANGE. DROP ME A REMINDER TOMORROW AT WORK [ SOUTHBOUND180@AOL.COM ] AND I'LL TRY THEM , I HAVE ONE OF EACH .

Yes they do!, Shotguns are really popular here....I work part-time in a gun store and we sell lots of Mossberg 500 slug barrels to guys with Maverick Model 88 shotguns. They fit perfectly.

Thinman is correct about the differences between the two shotguns...the Maverick is just a lower priced Mossberg 500. Most parts interchange too.
