Threading cylinder bore barrel?
I have a Mossberg model 500 persuader with a cylinder bore barrel...I was wondering if it was possible to have it threaded to accept the Accu-II choke system? I was wanting to get better patterning from the gun...in my opinion the cylinder bore barrel just doesn't cut it...I have looked for a replacement barrel for the 500 persuader but with it being a 8-shot I haven't been able to find one to match up...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance!!

If you want a shotgun that patterns, buy a different shotgun! The smoothbore you have was designed for one thing... close in defense, and patterns are not a concern for shotguns in that class.

THER IS NO REASON YOU CANN'T HAVE THIS BARREL THREADED FOR THE CHOKE TUBES. THE FACT THAT IT IS A CYLINDER BORE MAKES IS EASYER. 0 -
I bought this shotgun for "home protection"...that's it's sole purpose in my collection...I have 10 or 20 "other" shotguns that I hunt with...the cylinder bore barrel that came with it doesn't throw a good enough pattern (in my opinion) for that purpose...shotshells throw about a 10' pattern @ 10'-15' and 00 buck puts 2 or 3 pellets on the paper...the only thing that patterns well in it are slugs...which I prefer "not" to use as a home defense round...thats my whole reasoning behind threading the barrel...could a compentent gun smith do this for me?
Thanks

First thing you have to do is measure the outside diameter of the barrel.
I'm not sure of the Mossberg II tubes but I think they are .832 x 32 on the threads, like Winchester and Remington. Mossberg multimag are
874 x 32. And you should have about .040 over that diameter. A possibility may be colonial either standard at .795 x 44 or thinwass at
.775 x 44. Also the inside diameter will come into play also. As for pattern from the 18" barrel, I put tubes in a 18" Remington barrel and it patterns right nicely.0 -
MOSS. BARRELS ARE PRETTY 'MEATY' SO IF THE INSIDE DIA. ISN'T OVERSIZE STD. CHOKE TUBES SHOULD WORK OK. I CHARGE $40 TO REAM AND THREAD FOR WIN. CHOKE (SAME AS MOSS.) + THE TUBE. ANY SMITH IN YOUR AREA THAT IS SET UP FOR IT SHOULD BE ABOUT THE SAME. 0 -
I am considering the same on a Winchester. Gun shot ok for clay birds with #8's but I may have mine threaded for a turkey choke for hunting or stillboard shooting. Might look you up Mr. Wiskey if I cannot find a smith to do it locally. 0
