Just bought a S&W 581 4in. from a friend in need of $$. Can anyone give me info on it such as years made and price range? Thanks, Taco

  I just bought a S&W 581 4" blued L frame with normal wear to it. Can anybody give me a price range? I payed $175.00 for it, I know it's worth more than that.Thanks!!!

  I don't know that it's worth a lot more than you paid. It will always be worth less that the M681, which is the same gun in stainless steel, & which won't show wear nearly as quickly as the M581. These are both good quality guns, but a large number hit the market in the '80s as PD's traded them in on 9mm autos; I think that they are undervalued.
  
  The best way to determine actual selling prices is to search under "Completed" auctions on Gunbroker.
