Commando Mark 45
I have a Nickel Plated Commando Mark 45 could anyone tell me how to research the date of manufacture and point me in the right direction to ascertain the value,the gun is in perfect condition.I inherited the gun 15 some years ago and never really had the time to do any thing with it.Now I'm retired and looking for something to do.

I use to have one of them with the round receiver. They were made in Tennesse. The round model used a "grease gun" mag. I sold mine for $300 about 10 years ago. They were welded shut so that you could not take them apart and play with the interior parts. 0 -
Peary probably had what was known as the MK.III Commando. These early guns had frames that were made of alloy while the later guns had frames which were made out of some kind of plastic and did not hold up very well. As Peary said, the entire trigger assembly in the frame is either heavily staked or welded so that you can't get inside to change anything around or start to tinker with the mechanisim. The Commando's were produced for many years and sold rather well during the early 1970's, but when Auto Ordnance brought out their new semi auto Thompson sales dropped WAY off and at this point that quality really took a nose dive. I would not reccommend the purchase of one of these guns and $400 is too much in any case.
