Colt 1917 21/2 " bbl
I have a Colt 1917 45 DA cut to 21/2" bbl.brown plastic grips with Colt silver medallions.Colt stallion left side,eagle over S/5 above L shaped cylinder release.BBL is marked COLT DA 45,STATES PROPERTY{UNITED cut off} Colt triangle proof left side of trigger guard.Bottom of grip marked US ARMY MODEL 1917,plug in lanyard swivel,letters No but no #,inside crane 4 81 above 2744xx above 7 J.Finish is Colt royal blue.Bluing around correct front sight minimumly browned from installation. May have been reblued by Colt.This item was too pretty to pass up .Do I have a POST OFFICE GUN?Thankyou

No, you have a US M1917 that has been Bubba-ized. Even in the unlikely event that it was refinished by Colt, it is still a mutilated gun that has minimal value.

Back when you could buy surplus 1917's by mail order for $12, cutting down the barrel may have been seen as a neat thing to do. Who could have forseen that nice, original, 1917s would be collectable someday?
