Question about HK USP frames....

I have a HK USP full-size in .40cal. My wife wants a 9mm. Is it possible to do a caliber change by replacing the slide, barrel, and recoil spring assembly to 9mm?

Basically, is the frame of a .40cal same as the 9mm?

  I think so. HK has sold kits in Europe for this. However, by the time you buy the slide, the barrel, the recoil assembly, and, maybe, magazines, I doubt that you are going to save much. You may be better off looking for a used USP9.

  I agree, I don't think your going to save any money. In fact I think it will be rather difficult and expensive. It wouldn't be difficult on something like a glock, but I just don't see anywhere to get just an upper on a USP.
  
  My advise would be to trade it in on a 9mm.

  Would it really be necessary to buy a new slide? Why not a barrel of the same external dimensions as the 40 bored to 9mm? The weight of the 40 slide would have to compensated by the recoil spring.

  Yes, but everything else is different.
  
  What you CAN do is get a 357SIG barrel, from HK or other suppliers (I have a BarSto for my USP) & that's a 20-second, drop-in conversion. Nothing else has to change execept the ammunition.

  357SIG & 40S&W are very similar on the USP in that respect, but the 357 is slightly harder-hitting, ballistically. Both are superior to 9mm.
