mini 14 mag

will the m16 or ar 15 magazine fit in the mini i4 and is the 223 ammo the same as the 556 military. Thanks Steve

  No and yes. The standard AR15 mags will not fit the Mini 14. Ramline made (past tense) one that fit both, but any other ones will not interchange. You'll find some ammunition will actually have both the "5.56mm" and the ".223cal" markings on the box. Technically there can be some minor variances from one to another depending on brand.

  My understanding is that if your gun says it shoots 223 that is all you can use. If it says it will shoot 5.56mm it will shoot both. but there is someone on here that will know for sure.My mini 14 ranch manual says it will shoot the military 5.56mm ammo http://www.perfectunion.com/forums/index.php?act=Search&CODE=simpleresults&sid=80a46acddad82ac20fabf9c75c176d6d&highlite=223,+5.56mm

  I still have 2 of those Ramline mags lying around the house somewhere's. Those Min14's can be real finicky on mags. I would recommend that you buy 1 type of mag at a time. Don't do what I did and buy 6 Ramlines & then realize they don't feed in the Mini.

  Found a good solution: I bought a bunch of 20 and 20 round Triple K mags for $5 and $10 each and had my buddy modify them for an additional $5 each with surplus springs and some hand tooling.
  They now work perfectly and reliably. Just a thought.
