    Maybe we're getting closer.
Assuming it is actually a Savage/Stevens:
    2002 Gun Traders Guide

    Model 29 Slide-Action Repeater..........NIB $375 EX $300 Gd $204
    Takedown.Hammerless.Caliber:22 Short,Long,LR.Tubular magazine
    holds 20 short,17 long,15 LR.24"barrel,octagon on pre-war,round
    on postwar production.Weight 5.5lbs.Sights:open rear;bead front.
Stock w/checkered pistol grip and slide handle on prewar, plain stock
and grooved forearm on postwar production.Made 1929-67.

    Hope this helps.

Just for your information. I have a Stevens model 49, stamped on the left side of the receiver. It is a Savage/stevens 29/75, but is marked 49. I always thought this was just mis-stamped at the factory, and maybe it was. Who knows how many were mis-stamped.
