Old Shotgun
I have an old shotgun. It's barrel is marked Strong Fire Arms Company and the receiver states A. Dickerman. Does anyone know anything about this fire arm?

I just purchased a double barrel 12ga shotgun by Hopkins & Allen in real good condition, exposed side hammers, no model number with ser. #26272. Any knowledge about the gun, date of manufacture, and the value. Please advise if you can

The "Circle P W, tells me it a Winchester, it could be a Md 97. (Md 12s were stamped om the barrel and it should have been visble). does it have a Hammer at the end of the receiver? If so look on the on the rod behind the pump handle that goes into the receiver. It should say Model 1897. There is a slim chance, that your gun is not a pump action. If there is a knurled section (rough machined area) just foreward of the forearm, you could have a Md 11 SL, there were some sold to the military. Look on the Butt stock wrist area just behinfd the receiver, it will say Model 1911 SL on the tang. Get back to us after you look at it again, look everywhere, provide a serial # in this fashion 500xxx, it will ais in pinpointing the age and maybe Model. Regards Dave 0 -
What action? If it's a pump it could be any number of military issue shotguns. Some, nay, most of which have considerable collector value. Any chance of you posting a picture? Part of the S/N would help too. 0 -

It is a pump action, S/N is 1019456, it also has the serial # L019456 on the tube.0 -

First, if it has a superposed "W" over "P" stamp on both the frame and barrel, it can only be a Winchester (Sunray must have missed that part of your first post).
With a serial number that high, it is 99% likely to be a Winchester Model 12 Riot Gun. It should have a 20" barrel with the barrel marked "CYL". If it has a ventilated handguard (with four rows of holes), it is a Trench gun... but you made no mention of that feature, so I am sticking with it being a Riot Gun. The barrel should be marked with Winchester's address. It should also have an ordnance bomb stamped on the barrel, and on the left side of the stock (with the inspectors initials). Based on the serial number, it was made in the 1945/46 time frame (and the number on the mag. tube is actually "101xxxx" versus "L01xxxx").

Hey thanks alot Bert, the barrel is bigger than 20", it does not have the ventilated hanguard, but it does have inspectors initials stamped on the stock, I could find no ammo symbol on the barrel. I did find a drawing/schematic of a Model 12 and thats definitely what it is, Thanks again

Id say the gun was made in late 44 to 45. To measure the barrel legnth close the action with an empty chamber and measure down the inside of the barrel. 21in makes it a riot gun. If the barrel is original and 26in or longer it could be one of the anti aircraft gunner trainer guns or one the military used for recreational shooting [trap-skeet] All of These guns have added value over non military guns of the sme type in the same condition .... 0 -

With both the frame and stock having correct military use markings, but the barrel not being stamped with an ordnance bomb, my bet is that it has a replacement barrelon it.
Mike... please list every mark on the barrel, and tell us how long it is.

There is a "P" on the Barrel and if I'm measuring it right it's 28 inches, the only other marking I can see is the "12 GA.-2 3/4 CHAM.-MOD." on the barrel. Also right behind the trigger just in front of the screw there is a zero or an "o" stamped.quote:Originally posted by Bert H.

Just as I suspected, the barrel on your Model 12 has been replaced sometime during its past. This makes your shotgun just an interesting shooter (no longer a collector's specimen).
