Gunsafe for a pickup truck.

In looking at the new Missouri law, there seems to be more places where you cannot carry as opposed to the ones you can. [V] I work at a small liberal arts college and am under the microscope becuase of my previous disscussions on the matter. So it is certain that at times I am going to have to lock my carry piece in my pickup. We only have pickups so one solution will work for two vehicles. That being said, I have a 2003 Brand Spanking New Dodge Ram 1500 Quad cab with the optional storage comparment under the rear seat. This limits floor space to about 9" X 12". In my CCW class John Ross had a safe but it was too big.
Anyone have some suggestions on car safes?

Like in the NFL, defense is the key.

  you can bolt these to the floor of your car. We've found this is the best since it will alert you to when the batteries are getting low & can be used without batteries by using a key.

  Whatever solution you come up with, always keep rust in mind. Depending upon changes in temperature & moisture in the air, guns can literally rust overnight if stored in a car/truck.

  A small tin of silica gel will take care of the mositure problem

  Rick, I've been using an under-the-driver seat lock box in my 2001 Dodge Ram. Works great, holds plenty, comes with good hardware that will be difficult to remove without a torch. Key locked and padded inside. The box sits back a bit from the front, so looking in through the glass it is not visable.
  
  I bought it three years ago from a 4x4 catalog. If I remember the name I'll post it.

  a box that size shouldn't be too expensive to have built, you'd just have to figure out a good locking system. My brother-in-law built a nice one out of scrap titanium at work. It works real well until you have to change locks, titanium wears out dremel bits like there's no tomorrow. If a custom box doesn't suit you then I'd also check with the gunvault people...
