Making Hollow Points question
I'm almost having second thoughts about posting here after what is going on over at "General Discussion". Everybody jumping on another and want only to put people down.
Anyway I buy Wolf 9mm ammo by the thousands and as far as I know they don't make anything but FMJ.
My question is: Is it fesable to drill a hole in the top of the bullet for expansion? It would be about 1/8th inch diameter and 3/16th deep. This could be done by just turning the plastic holder they come in upside done. The bullet would be standing straight up.
A drill press would be used. A loss of accuracy will probably be a side affect.
I know it would not be a True Hollow Point because lack of fragmentation, and I'm not about to saw an X in 1,000 rounds of ammo.
What do you think?

Talk about frugal.... It would work, but for the $.04 a round you might save. Don't even think about shooting someone with it, it would be worse than handloads if their lawyer gets ahold of you. Just go buy a box of winchester hp's for $10. they are cleaner, more reliable and more consistant. The packaging doesn't hold them tight enough to drill the hole. You would need to remove them first and hold with pliers.

I'm talking about caching, not to save money.
I usaully carry original Black Talons, Hydra-Shoks or Winchester SilverTips for Protection.
Wolf is non-corrosive, whereas I have had a lot of brass corrode and replaced in my car gun.
I'm asking for when the SHTF.

How about that silver bear stuff that Cheaper than dirt was selling? I think it was galvanized steel cases. I never saw zinc rust or corrode. they had 145gr HP's for about the same money as the wolf.

Don't drill holes in FMJ bullets trying to make hollowpoints. The bullet is most likely designed with an open base (where you can see the lead center). By opening a hole in the nose it is possible for the gas to push the lead through the jacket, leaving the empty jacket stuck in the bore. This would then be an obstruction for the next round.
