75 rnd Drums for AK-47's in 7.62x39.......
It seems there are several different types of these now days. The Soviet Bloc ones that have a little lever on the front which you push down and load one round at a time just like loading a regular magazine.
Wouldn't this type have a tendency to have the spring "weaken" if you left it loaded for a period of time?
The "Chinese" type that opens and you simply fill with cartridges, close the door, and put it away WITHOUT winding the spring would seem to be a "Better" idea to me for long term loaded storage of loaded mags. Just insert these into the rife and wind four or five times and you're ready to roll!
This is my personal take on these. What do you have and what do you prefer? Why? What is the availability of these 75 Round Drums? Are they getting scarce like the magazines?

Pual, your observations are pretty much spot on. I own several of each type and while I do find the European drums to be better made (especially the Yugoslavian examples), the CHICOM drums seem to work just fine. In service with military forces these drums were used soley with the RPK light machinegun and in the Bulgarian army were only loaded prior to manuvers-- a time consumming process for the gunner and his mate. I have no real idea if the PRC troops loaded their drums long ahead of time and then left them sitting until needed, the CHICOM drums would allow for this. The drums are still around in quite large numbers at near $80 to $100. There are PLENTY of AK magazines around and I just purchased a large number of excellent condtion Polish magazines (like new metal and plastic) from AIM Surplus 888-748-5252.

Just came back from our Crossroads of the West Gun Show.....South Towne Mall. Two days of fun! The AK Drums and Mags were there, but at outrageous prices! There was only 8 or 10 Drums there.......all over $100 each and the type that loads like a regular mag...(Soviet Design?) and none of the Chinese type. There seemed to be quite a few magazines for the AK but I saw none under $20 each for 30 rounders. Typical gun show pricing, I guess.
Thanks Mark, for the insight. Just sort of seemed to me the spring thing could be a factor in the way the drums could be used over the long haul. Quite Frankly, I think sitting and loading a 75 round magazine by inserting each cartridge individually just might get tedious......very, very TEDIOUS! Hahahahahaha!!!

personally i like the chinese 100 rounders loaded up while they were $40.00 apeice hehe 0 -
just a thought if you are not apposed to mag clamps you can have 10-20-40-60-80 rounds or if you can find a tripple then you could have 15-60-90-120 or you could mix all kinds of numbers i currently use a tripple with 100rounds a 40 in the middle and two 30s on the sides and it looks pritty cool! also ihave a chink drum it is nice load it in about a minut an leave it till you nead it but they are getting pricy 125.00+ i think they are worth having for that special ocasion but a 40 round looks better and two of them and a clamp go for about 50.00 bucks thats 5 more rounds and about75.00 less check out security arms they have a picture of a 100round mag it is huge any way just my thoughts cj[:p] 0 -

It's a nice feeling knowing I have that Chinese Drum loaded with 75rds with no spring tension. But I still want one of those other drums just for the heck of it.

Not long ago a place call Frank's advertised NIW Chinese 75rounds for around 95 bux. I ordered one it came to 103.xx total shipped.
