Looking for info. on high-cap. mags. for Ar 10. Are they readily available, and what is the average price. Looking for 20 and 30 round mags. Thanks[:)]

I believe that Armalite will convert M1-A/M14 mags to work in the Armalite. Check with them. I don't know of any source of reasonably priced mags for this rifle. I had sent five M14 mags to Armalite a few years ago and they converted them and refinished them to work in my AR-10. I think they charged about $50 each if memory serves me! Not cheap at all!

I have an Armalite AR10. Great gun. The last I checked, at least a year ago, the 20 round mags were converted M-14 Mags. The cost was $80 and the wait was a minimum of 90 days. I have heard the price has gone up but am not certain. The Guns work great and so do the mags. 0 -
Contact ArmaLite AT 1-800-336-0184. You can get 20rd conversion kits for $30. You need an M14/M1A 20rd mag, use a cheap aftermarket mag so as not to destroy a good M1A mag.. the kit provides a body,follower, and plunger. You will need the spring and floor plate from your mag and you must retain the body of your mag for legal purpose. Also see ArmaLite's web site or Ar15.com ...industry...armalite. 0 -
All of these answers assume the poster means the current-production ArmaLite AR-10 made in Geneseo, Illinois, which use a magazine based on a modified M14 magazine, not an original A-I AR-10 from the 1950s, which uses a unique pattern also used by Knight for the SR-25, or one of the other clones, some of which use FN-FAL-pattern magazines.
The M14-based magazines are readily available for under $100, usually under $80, while the original "waffle-pattern" magazines are usually higher, but sometimes found for less because the demand is so small. The Knight steel magazines based on the original pattern are usually well over $100. FN-FAL magazines are very inexpensive, usually around $10 to $20, or less.0 -

Yes and no. How is that for a direct answer? With several clone makers of the AR-10, there are several possibilities. As I recall, one of the minor AR-10 clone makers uses/used FN-FAL magazines. It may be Hesse, but it seems like it was another of the minor clone makers. Since I am at my home now, I do not have access to my files to check. Perhaps someone remembers the clone maker who uses FN-FAL magazines.
The only "real" AR-10 now made is made by ArmaLite, and those rifles use the M14 magazine pattern. To me, the FAL magazine would have been a better choice because the FAL magazine is closer in configuration to the original AR-10, but when the "new" AR-10 was being developed, M14 magazines were pleantiful, and were already here. FAL magazines had to be imported, and that may have been a factor.
So bigcountry, to what type of AR-10 do you refer in your question?0 -
Oh, A friend of mine has a Argentine FAL and was thinking of trying to trade it for one of the new AR-10's if the magazines weren't too hard to come by. Thanks for the good info.[:)] 0
