Winchester 1917 low SS # value?

I have a Winchester 1917 (Enfield 30-06) with SS #605X. The stock
has been sporterized but the iron is all orginal including the
sights. Is there a dollar value for this gun or is it just another
altered military rifle. Replacing the wood could be an option.

  Just another altered military rifle. It's unlikely that you could find correct-looking wood, especially at a reasonable price. Your rifle would probably sell in the $100-200 range as a knock-around deer rifle.

  A four digit serial No. does not really compute but I have seen Serial
  No. (1) for sale-$50,000.00. All these WW1 rifles are overlooked, in my opinion. You may wish to enter the numbers on www.oldguns.net
  If this was a DCM gun-cost was about $5.00 way back then. Many "hunters or want to be's" purchased them and mutlitated the arms
  from a collector's point of view. If you have original metal-all Winchester-blued-I would suggest hunting down the Winchester parts-
  stock-guards and furniture=stock metal. You could put it back to an
  original configuration, but will never be an original rifle. Post
  WW1 Endfields were re-built. Some had a mixture of parts and finishes.
  During WW11 or just prior, these arms were refinished and re-barreled
  primary use was secondary and not front line. I would place a value of an original blued Winchester 17 barreled action in strong percent
  blue and excellent bore at well over $400.00 www.odcmp.com recently sold mixmasters
  w/poor bores for $400.00.=but in military configuration. If the above criteria re: original parts and bore condition is strong-remember no import markings-advertise it on www.jouster.com but you must meet
  legal qualifications. Stocks are available as well as the furinture but some parts are most difficult to find. Heck, e-mail me through my

  Actually, gunpartscorp has a wide variety of stocks, from proper if somewhat worn originals, to new walnut.
