what do we do with an ffl after the sale

ok i know if we sell a gun on gunbroker we all know that it must be shipped to a ffl holder but my question is after we get a copy of his liscense and ship the gun to the dealer what do we do with the copy of the liscesne ?? throw it away or keep it ???[?]

  If you are not a dealer you may do either. However, it would be prudent to retain it for a few years though, annotated with what weapon you sold.
  
  These are the Federal rules. I think some of the Communist and Socialist States may have additional rules.

  Documentation is good.
  Here in CA, I can download a form to CDOJ to have a firearm removed from the list of firearm I own. It doesn't ask for the purchaser's name, only info on the firearm, date acquired, and disposition date. A letter comes back, in a timely fashion, informing me CDOJ has registered the firearm as "No Longer In Posession".
  
  I staple this to MY D.R.O.S. at purchase, or receipt of purchase. I'll keep these unless the file gets too thick.

  It isn't often I sell a gun. In fact I"ve only done it three times. BUt if I do I always keep the FFL even though I'm not a dealer, both to cover my rear and also, should I sell another gun to the same person (probably not but possible) It would make things easier and faster.
