Colt 45
HELP, I inherited what looks like a Colt 45 but the markings on it do not say COlt anywhere.
on the left side of the slide it says
"Fabrica Militarde Armas Portatiles-Rosarig"
"Sistema Colt Cal 11.25mm - Industria Argentina"
on the right side of the slide it says
"P.N.N. 110907"
can anyone please give me info on the history of this gun and the value
many thanks

Hi, Would appreciate expert opinion on a gun purchased (used) in 1975. Colt Mk IV 45 ACP. It has had gold and silver hand grips added. What would the experts believe this is worth? The only other ID I have on it is the serial number. Thanks, bj 0 -
I'm assuming this is a SSA gun with serial number 49XXX. The Book of Colt Firearms, (R.L.Wilson), says the beginning of the year 1879 began with guns serial numbered from 49000. That would make it manufactured in 1879 as serial number 53000 began in 1880.
Now, given this and that fact you have a "Colt Letter" that says otherwise, I will be happy to point out that there are "Many Errors and Mistakes" in the Blue Book of Gun Values. There is also a few errors that have been noted in the "Book of Colt Firearms" also.
If you are not aware of this fact, the Publisher of "The Blue Book of Gun Values" is also the Publisher of "The Book of Colt Firearms," (R.L.Wilson), and Wilson got his information from the Colt Historian of his time of research. The information these books have is based on the best information they have been able to obtain. Sometimes, some dates become a little "clouded" over time. Most of the information in the Blue Book of Gun Values comes from the R.L. Wilson book. They seem to be saying the exact same thing about your gun. But, .....the Colt Historic Letter would take precedence in my opinion. Additional information may have come to light since 1970-71 when the R.L. Wilson book was researched and the Blue Book uses the Wilson book as the "Bible" on Colts, and this "new" info might be reflected in your Colt Letter.
I have not read your referred to "other Posts" so I am unable to venture a value........and given you say it has been "re-blued" sometime in the past, I would be very hesitant to even venture a guess! Good Luck! Hope this helps a little.

In addition to the reasons given by RP, you should know that serial numbers are not shipped in order. For any number of reasons or no reason, some numbers are shipped way out of order. I have a Colt Police Positive Special 2-inch with a 1928-era serial number that was shipped in 1926. (It is a Detective Special prototype.) I have a Colt Officers Model Match .22 WMR shipped in 1959 when the .22WMR chambering was not cataloged until 1961. These serial number and model variations are not uncommon. Only one year off is far from unusual. 0 -
