What type of FAL reciever is this???
I have a Century Arms L1A1 Sporter with a hideous excuss for a thumbhole stock. I'm going to have it totally refinished (Armor Kote) and want to restock it. But I don't know it I need L1A1 stocks or FAL stocks.
Here's whats on the reciever:
L1A1 Sporter Cal. .308
Reciever made by IMBEL -Brazil
Imported by CAI St. Alb VT
then on the magazine well the serial #1181XX

Welcome to the wonderful world of a Franken-FAL. Metric (FAL) reveiver mated to an inch (L1a1) parts kit. Did you notice the gap at the end of the rev'r. At least you got an Imbel instead of a Century or Hesse Recv'r.

Another note... when century assembled the rifles, they removed the stud which holds the pistol grip in place. You may need a replacement stripped lower for your rifle if you can't figure out another way to attach the grip. Should be inch pattern stocks.

Thank you gentleman. I'm assuming its gonna be a type 3 then. I think I'm gonna try to completely restock it with TAPCO's new stocks, the M249 type cosmetic and new forend. 0 -
LBMAN, I was doing some mre looking, and found that some of the century FrankenFALS had Indian Pattern Lowers... These were a real ****** item. Metric buttstock, and a inch pattern pistol grip. Just a note, nearly all metric stocks will fit nearly all metric guns regardless of weather type 1 2 or 3. all Imbels I have ever seen or heard of are type 3. Type 3's are blocky looking with few or no curves. Very utilitarian looking. Type 1's are radiused all over, broken edges with a 1/4" or so radius. They also have a box recessed into the side of the mag well. type 2's are somewhere in the middle. The difference in the buttstocks are that the metric has a single narrow tang with one screw behind the pistol grip.
