Shipping long guns to an FFL via UPS/Fedex

Looking for info on shipping long guns to an FFL. I am a non licensed person. I have been using FedEx overnight for hand guns but looking for a cheaper way to ship rifles. My question would be if you use UPS, does it have to go next day or can it go ground. I tried the UPS web site, but could not connect for some reason. I also inquired at Fedex about shipping ground and was told I can not do it?? Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks for any info.

  For long guns you can ship legally using the USPS. Just go into the PO and ship the firearm, you still need a FFL in all cases except if your sending it back to a manufacture or gunsmith for repair.
  It's against the USPS regulations to note that it's a firearm on the package or to inform the desk clerk your shiping a firearm.
  The best way is to ship Priority Mail, you don't have to put up with the hassel from FedEx or "BROWN" and it's cheaper to.

  Fed-X and UPS will only take handguns for next-day air. Longguns can go ground. The USPS will take handguns but you must fill out PS form 1508( most P.O. have never hear of it) for every shipment

  Handguns can only be mailed by dealers or manufacturers. Rifles or shotguns can be mailed by anyone as long as the shipment is legal under GCA 68. It is not illegal to inform the postal clerk that you are mailing a firearm, although it is not required if mailing to a licensee.

  EOD Guy is correct.
  
  You CAN also ship via UPS if the recipient can legally receive the rifle. You must ship from a UPS company counter & you must declare the true contents of your package. Nothing on the package can identify the contents as a firearm. "Adult signature required" must be requested. Many UPS clerks will not accept it unless you declare it as "firearm for repair", which is legal for you to do although it may not be the case.
  
  You can do the same with FEDEX, however I wouldn't, because they require ALL firearms be sent by Next Day Air.

  Shipping long guns is a lot cheaper by UPS instead of the post office.

  I thought I COULD mail a handgun overnight FedEx to an FFL ?!?
  I'm not a dealer, but it has TO GO to a dealer.

  United States Postal Service is good. I advise the Signature confirmation. That way you know who signed for it. It is good insurance.

  jsergovic, the key words are "mail", which means USPS, and "ship", which also means a common carrier, such as UPS & FEDEX.
  
  Handguns can be shipped through USPS only between licensed dealers/manufacturers.

  Thanks, Neal. Now I know why it was O.K. for a KY dealer to "Priority Mail" my new Colt 1991 STS to my FFL in CA. I pick it up on the 30th ! Yum !!!!

  Thanks to all. I really needed to know if using USPS if you had to declare at the counter it was a firearm and also if I could use UPS Ground. Asking the clerks at both facilities just brings out total confusion. Now I have the answers.
