Charter Arms Off Duty 38

Does anyone have an opinion about this revolver? It is cheap, light and seems fine for a concealed carry that you do not shoot very often. Any input would be appreciated.

  A friend asked me to help him choose a .38 snubbie a few years ago. I tried to steer him toward a S&W or Colt, but he insisted on buying a Charter because it was cheaper. Now, all he does is complain about how heavy the trigger pull is. I told him he can have a gunsmith lighten the trigger pull, but, since he is basicly cheap, he would rather just continue to complain rather than spend any more money on it.

  Good friend I work with has a Charter .44 special Bull Dog. I've shot his & found it to be a good gun. He has thousands of rounds through his with no problems. Charter Arms is an American owned & operated company. I don't think you will go wrong buying one of their guns. Only negs I've heard on their 38's is that they have a heavy trigger pull.

  I have a Charter Arms Undercover 2" 38spl and I'm very happy with it -I think its a fine gun. I also have a S&W Chiefs Special 2" 38 spl and yes, there is quality difference. But for the price - you can't go wrong with the Charter Arms - its reliable, easily concealed and basically a utilitarian weapon with no frills.

  I carried a Charter Arms Undercover for a few years. It is light, easy to carry on belt or ankle. DO NOT put hot loads in it. The light frame will not take the extra pressure. This may lead to malfunctions. It shot consistant 2" groups at 7 yards, double action. A good weapon for the money if you don't ask it to do something it's not designed to do.

  I have a .38 Undercover. It is accurate enough for what it is designed to do. Mine is hammerless and fits in jeans front pocket. I like the heavy trigger pull on a gun I might be pulling out of my pocket in a hurry. Don't want to shoot the pecker off. I paid $260 and am very pleased with it. I sometimes throw it in the tackle box, it's so small. Good luck.
