Stuck cases in Savage 110 30-06

I tried out that Savage again after one heck of a thorough cleaning, and once again, stuck case!
First couple shots, bolt was tight but removable, then it happened, stuck! Brought it home, placed the ramrod in it and gave it a few taps with the hammer till it popped out. Cleaned it again and this time I got smart, got out a .54 cal brass brush, attached it to the ramrod and then placed it in the drill. Inserted it thru the back of the gun into the chamber and fired it up, cleaned up nicely, worked it back and forth for about 10 minutes till it was nice and shiney in there. Then I took the bolt and the dremel tool, got out the tiny little brush and proceeded to clean the bolt face and the lugs real good. Insert resized case, goes in and out perfectly, insert fired case, whether fired in that gun or any other '06 I have, stuck! As soon as I start to lower the bolt handle is when it sticks, I don't even have to close it the entire way, just about 1/4 of the way and the case is stuck. The cases fired in that gun show no, none, zero, nada zilch nothing, none whatsoever of any kind of pressure or headspace problems, looks just as normal as can be, just keep getting stuck!
What is wrong? Is it time for a new barrel? If so it is time for a .300 mag!!

Just a suggestion. You have a screw that holds the stock to the receiver (front floorplate screw) that lines up with the bolt lug channel in the front of your receiver. Loosen this screw a couple of turns then try inserting and removing a cartridge; no promises. 0 -
are you seeing any type if shiny marks in a cicular fashion on the head around the lettering? Like the bolt face is turning on it and giving it a shiny spot? You may have to look hard for this under a bright light.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

What load are you using? If the chamber is clean and non oily, its possibly high pressure. Your Savage may have a chamber that is cut on the minimum SAAMI specifications and if shooting a "red line" load, pressures may be to high in that particular gun.
Depending upon the chambers in your other 06's, fired cases may not fit depending upon which end of SAAMI the reamer was when cutting.
Are you getting a shiny ring on the case in the web area of the brass?0 -
Check primers of fired cases.If they are very flat,sure sign of high chamber pressure. 0 -

Are you using commercial or military brass?
I had a similar problem with a 308. I bought some south african surplus ball and tried shooting it in a commercial 308. The cases got good and stuck. I then tried commercial 308 and that brass got stuck too. I cleaned the chamber thoroughly with a bore brush and solvent and never used that surplus ammo again. No more problems.
I suspect there was some sort of lacquer coating that didn't sit well in a tight chamber. It also sounds as if your sizing die is out of spec. If the brass was fired in the same rifle you shouldn't even have to full length size it. Could you pontially have a lube buildup or some other miniscule defect in the die that would leave your cases ecentric or somehow less than perfect? The obvious fix there is to grab a few new commercial rounds and run them through the action.
I feel for you though, one stuck case can really ruin your hunt! I'm too old and fat to run bucks down and beat the crap out of them.....

I had a similar problem with an early Savage 110.
Took it to the local Gunsmith and for $25 he hand turned a lapping tool in the chamber and the problem of stuck cases never came back.
He said sometimes miniscule amounts of rust will form in the chamber that general cleaning wont get rid of. When the case expanded against the chamber after fireing the rust would grab it just enough to make it almost imposible to extract.

I ran into the same problem on a customers rifle. (Not a 110). The chamber was off center from the bore, and the barrel threads. Did a chamber cast, the rifleing on one side was all the way to the case neck, the other side about .4 inch from the case neck. The rifle did not shoot well. Geri 0 -
I would take a fired unresized case from that rifle, cut off the case neck and the shoulder since you don't want to lap these then drill and tap the primer pocket for a 1/4-20 thread. Make a rod about 3/8'' diameter X 10" or 12''long and thread one end. Leave a shoulder so the case will be squared up when you tighten the case on the rod. Get some fine auto valve grinding compound and put a small dab on the forward 3/4'' of the case.
Use slow speed on an electric drill and work the case slowly in and out until the case seats home. Tight is OK because when you clean the grit out, the case will be looser. Clean out the grit from the chamber and the locking lug recesses and test with a case fired in your gun.
My take on this is either a minimum sized, rough or slightly ringed(bulged) chamber.
If you don't cure it by lapping, a maximum '06 chamber reamer might clean it up.0 -
Have you checked the headspace? I had a model 99 Savage .284 Win. that would stick on the third shot. You could pull on the lever until you pulled the rim off the case. Wait until it was cool, drop a cleaning rod down the barrel and the case would fall out.
I finally took it to a gunsmith. He measured a fired case, and it was almost 1/8 too in long. Fixed the headspace and the rifle was fine. Just my two cents worth.
