These are good.180 grain Winchester Partition Gold,180 grain Federal Cast Core Flat Point,158 grain Winchester Jacketed Silver Point. The first 2 are great, the last one is a little light but will work. The first 2 offer excellent penetration though which is what you need, they will get in there and do exactly what you intended when you let your shot go.Of the 3 i would say go with the 180 Grain Winchester Partition Gold but the Federal is just as good and wont expand as much I just prefer Winchester ammunition.

the federal 158 grain soft point will bust your deer just fine. It will lift him up and flip him over. I have used the winchester 110 grain hollowpoint up close. but it tears up too much meat. The soft point penetrates better at 100 yards anyhow.

Thanks for the responses so far, I got a heck of a deal on a 94 trapper and my friend's young son wants to start deer hunting, so I suggested this as a short range possibility. I handload and have a chronograph so I'll be working up some loads.
