jennings j-22 operation/function question
dad is ill and unable to function. mom has asked me to i.d. a gun. in my dads office desk i found his nickle .22 cal j-22 that he used to make night drops. #0100xx. i know jennings are cheap guns. i have no intentions to sell it, i just cant tell if its broke or if im just not familiar with its function. theres no slide lock as you all know, so...true or false: the hammer wont fall without a round chambered? the gun empty, with a mag in, nothing happens with safe on or off. whats up? thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like the gun is broken. If so, it is not worth the cost of repair. Pitch it in the box marked, "Things that belonged to Dad" and keep it as a rememberance.

On this the hammer will fall empty or loaded mag in or out. when cocked on the back of the slide you will see the firing pinthru a small hole. it should be even with the back of the slide. when the hammer falls the firing pin will be in . pull the slide back or cock it and see if the firing pin is there.if not then you probably have a problem. JUST AS THE SLIDE IS COMPLETELY OPEN . IF YOU DO NOT PULL ALL THE WAY OPEN IT DOES'NT COCK , SHOWING THE FIRING PEN AS DESCRIBED ABOVE .
THEY OFTEN BROKE FIRING PINS TRHERE'S A CHANCE I HAVE ONE. THERE PRETTY EASY TO TAKE DOWN IF YOU NEED TO TAKE DOWN AND CHECK PIN LET ME KNOW , I'LL HELP .

thanks for the help. it appears the firing pin is broken or missing. i see nothing out the back hole at all. cycled or not. hammer doesnt click at all. i'll take you up on that firing pin if you are still offering. whats the takedown sequence? nec9554@juno.com. 0 -

If memory serves me corectly you could put the fireing pin in backwards if you took it apart to clean. And if you did not replace it the right way it may not cock the piece. This may also be the prob.
I can not recall which end go's to the rear the long or short. Someone else will know. Good Luck. And please let us know if this is the prob.

ok...got it out. it reminded me of a colt 32 or high standard g380 set up. now....i found the firing pin. it looks like a little chess piece. the king actually. the striker is 1/8th inch and its a round strike type. the indicator is 1/8th inch on the other end. the long thin part was facing to the rear. the crown end was towards the bbl. looks right to me. now...i dont see a hammer folks. its not an internal swinging hammer is it! it looks more like a fangled op rod activated release that sends something spring loaded go forward. how does this work? 0 -
BOBSKI FROM THE SOUND OF YOUR DESCRIPTION IT MAY BE BROKEN. AS YOU DESCRIBED THE OPPOSISITE ENDS ARE BOTH SAME LENGHT [1/8 " ] THE INDICATOR SHOULD BE SHORTER THAN F.P. AND SHOULD BE ROUND ON EACH, SEE IF ONE END IS ROUND AND THE OTHER IS ROUGH IF THEY ARE NOT BOTH ROUND IT'S BROKEN.
ALSO WHICH SIDE WAS SPRING ON, SHOULD BE IN BACK OF THE RINGS AROUND

ok...side view of assy = indicator is rounded at end. like a ballpoint pen. firing pin is flat on top like a coke can. looks broke or sheared off. spring was on back side towards indicator. now...how would this effect the guns hammer not firing or falling? 0
