Information needed on Black Powder Revolver
I just purchased a Liberty Brand Black Powder Revolver manufactured by F.LLI Pietta & C snc in Italy. It was imported and distributed by KBI, Inc. in Harrisburg, PA who then sold their stock of these pistols to The Sportsman's Guide - all of this occurred approximately ten years ago.
What is unusual about this pistol is that it looks like a cartridge firing Colt Revolver and not black powder style revolvers. In fact the Instruction Booklet that came with it applies only to cartridge firing models and is therefore worthless to me.
I purchased it because I've never seen anything like it before. KBI and The Sportman's Guide have no literature on this gun anymore so I need to contact the manufacturer in Italy.
If anyone has an address for F.LLI Pietta & C snc in Italy or know if they have a web site - please let me know. If you know anything about the process of loading this black powder gun or have any other information about it - I'd greatly appreciate it.

I just bought a Pietta 1858 Remington Revolver. I'll go home tonight and see if I can't get some manual info for you. The manual I have covers all of their BP revolvers. Pietta's website is:

Does the cylinder have percussion nipples at the rear, or is the cylinder bored straight through? If it's bored through, then it must be a BP cartridge gun. Are there any barrel markings indicating caliber? Emery

I remember this gun. It doesn't have a loading rammer like the earlier percussion Colts but an ejector housing like the SAA Colts.
If that ejector housing is in fact a straight line rammer it will take a lot of force to seat a ball. I believe though the cylinder has to come out to be loaded in a separate fixture which you can copy from the Colt Paterson loading device.0 -
I thought at first that maybe someone had put the wrong cylinder in the gun. Upon further reflection, I remembered that Cabella sold this gun, or one like it. It is styled like the Colt SAA but is a black powder revolver using percussion caps. I don't know if they still handle this revolver or not, but a call to them may put things straight; I have no idea why the cartridge type instruction manual was with the gun. Emery

I own the same gun. I bought it from Cabelas many years ago.It came with a Cabelas manual. This gun is a riot to shoot,quite accurate, but it is time consuming to load, especially if you are spoiled by loading modern cartridges into a handgun. It has adjustable sights and a handsome blued finish. I would be happy to loan my manual to you. Contact me if you are interested.

Traditions is a Rep for Pietta, I'd give them a call and see if they can send you out a manual. I'll fax you a copy of my manual. But there's not much in there.

Drobs: Yes that's it - the 4 3/4" model 1873 Colt design to shoot
black powder only. Thanks for finding it for me - I called Traditions but they only work until noon on Fridays. I sent them an e-mail but I'll call them again on Monday
