Ruger 10-22 trigger pull

I just purchased a Ruger 10-22 rifle & was suprised at how hard the trigger pulls. Can this be adjusted? Is there any draw back to a lighter trigger?

  the pull weight can be adjusted by polishing the surfaces. a nicer trigger can be baught and dropped in. check out www.brownells.com for their 10/22 stuff. or just go talk to a good gunsmith.

  No "do it yourself" trigger pull adjustment.
  A qualified gunsmith can "improve" the factory trigger, or
  install one of the many aftermarket triggers available.

  rugers and savage(without accutrigger) are notorious for hard triggerpull. suggest you take it to a smith. by the way, welcome aboard.[:p]

  I suggest you shoot 500 rounds through it to see if it will smooth out a little. Sometimes new guns need breaking-in. I have a stainless Marlin 22 mag that was horrible at first but got much better after a few boxes of ammo.

  Get a hammer/sear kit if you want to improve the trigger pull of the 10/22. Graf & Sons at www.grafs.com has one by Power Custom that works quite well and is easy to install if you have mechanical inclinations. Brownells should also have several options.

  The gunsmith should probably run you $20, whereas the replacement triggers or parts will run from $40-$200 depending on manufacturer.

  All you need is a Volquartsen hammer runs about $30. Not too hard to put in yourself and brings the action down to around 2.5 pounds. I went whole hog and bought a kit that my gunsmith put in.
  
  Sad to say, the early 10/22s had a nice trigger action from the get go.
