SIG 229 SLIDE RE-BLUED/NITRON - ALREADY WEAR

I just hada 1995 P-229 Aluminum slide re-nitroned by Sig. I've already noticed after putting 1000 rounds through the gun and cleaning it each time (4), that the finish seems to be wearing off. They even reblued the barrel and the top is already back to somewhere between steel and blue. Is there anything I can do to prevent the finish from wearing off? I guess worse case scenario, it'll just look like a tough weapon.

  Hey Drag, Sigs are notorious for finish wear! I have a Sig P229 in blue and I too have noticed finish wear. I've been working with guns for quite some time, I work part time in a gun store and with law enforcement. In all the years I've worked with firearms I've noticed the Sig nitron finish wears fast.
  
  Why? it's real simple...Sigarms produces stainless slides (not aluminum) and then they blue their slides. The blued finish has a hard time sticking to the stainless slide. That's why it rubs off in such a short time.
  
  For me, it's not such a big deal. I think the only way to avoid the problem is to buy a stainless/silver finished Sig right off the bat.[8D]
