is someone pulling my leg?

I own a british .303 II that was made in 1917 with a brass medal of lady godiva in the stock. What I want to know is there any more like this or did someone put the medal the after it was used? And if so why, and if this is real will it make more collectible than it is allready?

  You see things like that from time to time. It does not really add anything because you cannot atribute it to any person or regiment can you?
  If it's "Trench Art", it may appeal to some collectors however.
  In any event, don't remove it and leave an unsightly hole in the wood-that would be even worse.

  This may be "off the wall", but from the dim recesses of my trivial mind, I seem to recall that one of the British Regiments from Coventry (where the good lady did her "show and tell"), had a Lady Godiva as their Regimental Symbol.
  
  I'm wondering if they marked their rifles with it?
