New England Handi Rifle - Any Good?

Anyone have experience with the new England Firearms Handi Rifles?

I am looking at a stainless steel in .223 w/synthetic stock, scope rail and sling. My neighbor bought one for his tractor and it seems to meet the need of a general purpose rifle for varments (coyotes), turkeys and a close shot for deer.

Wanted to ask the experts before buying. Main concerns are accuracy and dependablilty.

    For a cost effective beater rifle they are hard to beat. From a solid rest they will shoot MOA or so. Don't expect that good of accuracy from them offhand, because the trigger flat out sucks... SAme trigger as in their shotguns. The trigger can be improved with some stone work. They are such a simple yet strong design that it should last a long long time. I had one of them in 223 with a wood stock a while back and it held up very well, no signs of getting loose after a couple hundred rounds. My first shotgun was one of their 20 ga singles and I still have it here for posterities sake.

    I shot one that belonged to a friend chambered for .223 and it shot excellant.I went and bought one in .22 Hornet which I already had a CZ chambered for the .22 Hornet and I love it.For the money you cant beat them.Im going to add a few more to my Rifle collection,and will use them when I dont want to take my expensive Rifles out.

    I also give them a huge thumbs up. Mine is synthetic in .223 and it shoots 1/2 inch 100 yd groups. Not bad for a gun that sells for under 200 dollars. The trigger is a git heavy, but a gunsmith can take care of that for you.

    I have one in the 17hmr and I had a 30-06 , both are great guns for the money

    Hi gunpaq - I have the synthetic Handi-Rifle in .22 Hornet. I also have a New England H&R Ultra Varmint in .22 Mag. I love them both. Good luck if you get one!

    Both the "H & R" and "NEF" Handi-Rifles are excellent rifles. I haven't have one yet that wasn't a tack driver after tring several brands of ammo thru it.

    Don't expect sub 1" MOA type accuracy due to the break-action design (it's just hard to keep the same stock & cheek weld, etc.), but any scoped version is capable of excellent performance out to the calibers effective range.

    i have one in 22 hornet. It has held up just dandy. I saw one in the gun shop in 45-70. Dont know how it holds up in the heavy calibers.
