Customized Mauser Model 98 22-250

I have a sporterized (guess that is what it is called) Mauser 98 action with a heavy target barrel and chanbered in 22-250. Drives tacks...I know it would be worth more if it wasn't "sporterized" but I was trying to find out a little more about it. It has matching Waffenstamps on the bolt and receiver. Anyone know who or where I could look to find out more about this rifle? Thanks to all. John

  Thanks for the info, the web sites were very helpful. Dotcom guy30 said very succinctly what I verbosely stated in the initial message. I was trying to find out if anyone knew who "sporterized" these weapons, or was that a common thing in the late 40's and 50's after the war. Just curious John

  Hard to understand how one can declare a
  rifle "ruined" without first seeing it.
  Griffin & Howe "ruined" quite a few surplus rifles.
  Rather nicely, I might add.
