Remington 700???
Can anyone tell me what year Remington changed the 700's so you could lift the bolt with the safety on? I am thinking sometime in the 70's

I didn't know they did.
My youngest 700 was made in '68.

I DON'T BELIEVE THIS WAS DONE UNTIL RECENT YEARS ,POSSIBLY WHEN THEY ADDED THE NEW KEY LOCKING BOLTS.

Yeah,
Little Bro' just got one of them 710's.
I guess it's a good idea(for safety sake).
Just another key to remember to bring.[V]

I bought a new 700 in 1983 and it had the old style safety. I bought a used 700 classic in 350 Rem. Mag and it has the new safety. Not much help but it started later than the 70's. Not sure what year the classic was made in 350 but they had it then. 0 -
I have a 1985 Ducks Unlimited Remington 700 (.30-06) and it has the new style safety that allows the bolt to be opened in "safe". 0 -
I like the ones that don't... Then it is a bolt-lock so you know it is closed. I guess the best thing would be a 3-position safety. I sure hate the new locking safeties!

1982-83, I believe. They have a recall on the older styles.
