Wilmot 20 gauge "Royal Damascus"
Hey guys my Aunt has a gun she recently took into a Portland Oregon gun shop where a man told her it was worth 350-400 dollars. I think its worth a lot more but I have been having trouble locating much info on the internet about it. It is a 20 gauge double barrel shotgun made by the Wilmot Gun Company out of Belgium called the "Royal Damascus." It has external hammers with side-by-side barrels with a very fancy engraving. The stock is hand carved, with a stag on it that has glass bead eyes. It seems to be a unique design and I am pretty sure it is a pre 1899 gun. Anyone have an idea as to what this gun is worth or where I could find out?

I'm afraid you won't like what I have to say, but you asked...
Yours is an inexpensive (to put it politely) utility gun made in Belgium. About the only thing you got correct in your post is the timeframe. Your gun and countless others flooded the US market 100 years ago. While a good domestic double could be had for $20.00, your gun sold for $10.00 or less.
The gun will carry ELG proofs, the glass eyes and the engraving(s) are all meant to make a buyer think quality. Not so!
Please don't attempt to shoot the gun with modern rounds. Even with black powder I'd be VERY cautious.
Value today is as a home decoration. Sell the gun to your dealer as he's offering twice what the general market will bear. For the gun to approach that kind of money it would have to be in new condition... I mean brand new condition!
Sorry, but that's the way it is. The story will be the same on any of the various boards.

I had a similar gun, but in 12 ga. the value assigned is at least fair, if anything over priced.
Those guns were to impress people who knew little about quality.
