low ser.# 1911 Colt .. Value ?

Hi,I have a low ser.# Colt(US Prop. marked) 1911..All orig. (Never been reblued, no newer parts or fooled-with)... It's in the 58,000 ser.# range. I think it was made in 1913...It has the orig.1/2 blued mag. and it still has 90%+ orig. blue left on the gun(just some light holster wear). I would like to know the value for insurance replacement.   Right now the market on .45's is very fluid. You might buy some books, but a better method is to monitor GB and AA for the ACTUAL SELLING PRICE of like items. It is very hard to place a value on a weapon from a description. 90% blue may be a reblue. I have no way to be absolutely certain.
  
  Another reason I hesitate to give you a value is that a great disservice is done by "experts" highballing a weapon. There may be a flaw not recognized by the owner that would only be visible to a knowledgeable "hands on" examination. Then that person would offer an amount way below what the internet "expert" told you.
  
  The weapon owner would think the honest appraiser was a ripoff and hard feelings would enshue. Not a good situation.

  If all original, the Blue Book gives a value of a 1912-13 manufactured Colt M1911 in 90% at $925.

  If it really is all original at 90%, most collectors would pay the Blue Book anytime. (The lanyard ring magazine alone can be worth over $100.) p3skyking makes the points that keep me away from offering many opinions on market value. I have seen great variation in sale prices on Colt Government Models and Colt military Models 1911 lately, with some modified guns bringing way more than I think they should, and some original guns bringing less. A lot depends on who happens to see the auction at a given time, and whether those that see it have just spent too much of their stash on another item.
