If it is not already registered then it CANNOT be registered now by an individual. The registration period ran on for many months and finally ended about two years ago (JudgeColt probably has the exact dates in his files). Under the law you really have no recourse here to do anything other than notify your nearest BATFE field office and arrange to surrender the weapon. They will pay you a presonal visit and haul the gun away and you'll never see it again...it get scrapped.
You can surrender it to your local PD or sheriffs department if you wish and they can either destroy it, surrender it to the BATFE for you, or register it for themselves on a Form 10. A Form 10 is used ONLY by governmental entities who want to retain unregistered National Firearms Act weapons for deparmental use; be this actual field use, training, display, or forensic analysis. All a PD has to do is file the Form 10 with the BATFE and the weapon is with the department forever...it can NEVER be sold to anyone, not even Class 3 dealers. If you surrender your Streetsweeper to the BATFE that is the end of the gun right then and there. If you "give/donate" it to your local PD it just might live on in their hands and you may be able to right the value of the gun off on your income tax-- although as an unregistered DD it actually has ZERO value since it cannot be legally sold. There is no quick fix on this one, if there was I'd tell you!

You should probably get rid of it, buy a Remington 1100, 11-87, or a Browning A-5, and epuip with a tube extension. Or if you got the money to spend get a Bennelli M-4.

I don't know if this is good legal advice, but what about selling the parts and destroying the receiver?

Here is your problem Dface, and so you'll know who you are talking to I am a firearms dealer who has delt in National Firearms Act weapons for many years including all types of law enforcement sales. These Sreeetsweepers are not some old and long forgotten curio and relic, like an H&R Handi Gun, which was produced over 70 years ago in quanitites which no one really even knows and who production records (if they even existed) were lost long ago. When the new DD classification came down on the Streetsweeper the BATF was all over the manufacturer (SWD) for its production records. Those guns still in the factory were frozen as DD on the spot. Shipping records for distributor sales were checked and the distributors contacted. Those Streetsweepers still in the wholesalers inventory were also frozen from further sales. It gets worse from here on out.
The BATF then took the wholesalers records and contacted every dealer who purchased a Streetsweeper and the dealer was forced to account for it. I had one myself in inventory at the time, but if I'd have sold it I was mandated to send the sales information on the Form 4473 (the yellow form) on to the BATF so that they could contact the retail customer. If the retail buyer had sold the gun then he was expected to come across with the information as to who he sold the gun to until the trail lead to the final Streetsweeper in existance. Owners were given the chance to register their new DD tax free on a Form 1 and I did this without any trouble. Your streetsweeper is no doubt on the unaccounted for list and the BATF knows full well that it exists...just who has it is what they are not sure of right now, but they will keep on looking until it is located. I STROGLY suggest that when they do find this weapon it is NOT in your hands! This gun is now nothing but trouble and I suggest that you listen to everyone (not just me) and TURN IT IN NOW! The Streetsweepers are not great shotguns to start with and I'd hate to go to prison for being caught for owning a poorly made firearm. Better to spend 10 years in the slam for hidding that cherry 1921A1 Thompson...you could be proud of your jail term for a fine firearm like that! I would not walk across the Street for an SWD SS, much less do jail time for it. Bite the bullet and drop a dime to the Feds...it has got to go and soon.

You lead us all to believe that you already had it and that it was not registered. If someone else owns it and it was registered then it can be transfered to you on a Form 4; with fingerprints, photos, chief law enforcement officer signature, and the $200 NFA Tax. Figure around 5 to 6 months for the transfer to be approved. Disregard everything else I WASTED my time writing in my previous two posts.

Hi Dface, I can see why you want it. My friend had one that was registered and I shot it. Cool little play toy, however they are junky and not worth jail time. Cut your loses, a lawyer will cost a lot more. 0 -
