G98-40 rifle
Can anyone provide info on a rifle that looks a lot like a 98 Mauser.It has a split bridge like a SMLE and a 2 pc stock like the Brit, the trigger gd. floorplate and bolt look 98.It has German markings and G98/40 on the reciever.

You have a Gewehr 98/40. It was manufactured by the "Femaru Fegyver es Gepgyar" factory, of Budapest Hungary, between 1940 and 1943 for the German Army.
They are not common in factory originial, excellent condition, with matching serial numbers.
If yours is in this condition, it would be of considerable interest to collectors and would be worth a substantial amount.
BEWARE! since these particular rifles are so desirable to collectors, FAKES abound.
Just recently one of this forums corespondents provided us with a picture of a 98/40 in his collection, he alleged that it was in "PERFECT" condition. In reality, It was obvious that it was a refinished POS!0 -

I take offence at your statement as a personal affront. I have been collecting weapons probably since before you were born. I advised you to speak no more of this matter, but you insist. You deserve this sir.
I question your knowledge about the time of day and state that in my opinion you are a common blowhard who has no real knowledge or understanding.
My weapons are genuine and original. Any real expert is welcome to stop by my shop and verify as my collection is on public display. You got anything to compare? I can and do back up my statements.
Your rash apprasial of a value assigned to a weapon and then to be confronted with "put your money where your mouth is" kind of caught you off guard didn't it. Anyone that is interested can check the previous thread and see what kind of "collector", and I use this term loosly, you are. One obviously full of hot air. For you to make a blanket statement as to condition on the basis of two poor photographs is foolish and no knowledgeable collector would do this.
I put only two photographs of the 98/40 on to see your reaction. You asked for no additional photos, nor did you ask any pertinet questions. Your reaction was very predictable to me and verified that you had no intention of living up to your big talk. In the previous thread, I gave you an out when I asked where one might obtain four figures. You should have taken it.
I invite anyone that cares to view the previous thread and judge for yourself who or what is the POS as you put it.
