You stated " every fired cartridge was slick/sticky with cosmoline, is this siezing the brass after fireing? unfired rounds cycle perfectly in and back out" Which tells me the problem is not ejection but a dirty firearm. If the fired cases are sticky with cosmoline you are most likely aticking cases due to high pressure. Clean the firearm thoroughly to include the chamber, bore, inside the bolt and magazine box. If nothing else, remove the metal from the wood and scrub it with HOT/SOAPY water. Lightly oil and try again.

In other words, don't shoot any gun until you clean out all the cosmoline. You are fortunate you still have a face.

Like the man said...You'r luckey to still have a Face...Leaving Cosmoline in a Chamber or in the Barrel is like playing Russian Roulette with an Automatic...Its dangerous...but I have found that a Small Soup can full of Gasoline is/was the best Cosmoline remover in the world...I've used Gas and a Tooth Brush, Bore Brush and Cleaning Rod with Patches on so many Guns I can't recall how many...get that stuff out of the Chamber and Bore...Your Gun should work just fine....
No Smoking or Flames allowed in the Area...No Sparks or Pilot Lights in the Area either......

I did clean it out, just didn't get every last bit out of the chamber, kinda hard, as the patch only cleans the bore.
I asked just in case the thing had real problems and I should take it back. anyway the overpressure diverts through the mag well on mauser actions. And I never hold an old military rifle on the first 5 times anyway, that's what vises and trigger rope are for.
    Thanks for the input -Ralph
