What would be a good load for the 22.250 to hunt deer with? Thanks for your help.

Don't have an answer to your question, just a comment... Ya might want to double-check to make sure the .22 caliber bullets are legal. I don't know of any states that it is legal (but I am sure there are some, I just don't know of them). Not tryin' to be rude, just be safe.
Oh, and personally, I'd go with the heaviest bullet I could shoot, it a boat-tail if possible. I wish I could have used my .220 Swift for deer - I'd have never sold it.
*update* - I just pulled the Texas reg's to see if it was legal and all it says is no rimfires of any kind, but nothing about the .22 caliber bullets so I guess you're legal, but I still wouldn't recommend it.

Yep, a lot of states have a .243 minimum requirement for deer. 6mm Remington would be a good choice, but then again I'm a little biased[;)]

I notice in your profile you are from texas. Although texas is known for relatively low body weights I would have to advise against using a 22-250 for whitetails. I know that deer have been and will continue to be killed with 22cal centerfires but that doesnt make it right. The only 22cal I would consider using is the 224tth. But as for your 22-250 you will need a fast twist barrel to stabilize a heavy bullet and most factory barrels arent fast enough. I think the tth uses a 75 grain bullet. Also the 22-250 isnt capable of the velocity or muzzle energy the tth produces. The 22-250 was and is a varmint caliber. Step up to a 25-06 or something in the 6mm family as a bare minimum for deer. I prefer 30cal magnums. My philosophy is blow em off their feet. The 300wsm is a pleasure to shoot and with proper shot placement the deer only move about 3 feet. Straight down.

The 22-250 was never meant to be a Deer Cartridge...To light of Bullet for one thing..and not enough weight to zip thru twigs or branches that are in the way...I've seen deer with patches of hide gone and it was attributed to a High Speed light Bullet...It just exploded upon impact with the deer...I've Hit Coyotes at 100 Yards Plus and knocked them down only to see them get up and limp away with big bald spots...I'm sure they died later, but it taught me that a Bit slower and heavier bullet was needed...
Used to hunt Praire Dogs up in Seligman, Arizona with the venerable old 22-250...and if there was a Light Breeze it was Heck trying to Hit one at 200 yards....Bullet was crankin' close to 4000fps....but the drift was just as bad......Granted...if you hit a dawg...he stayed hit!..You'd get a Stubby Tail and and few pieces of hair and gristle for a trophy...Whoopie...!Do Yourself a Favor and get something that will Guaranty You One Shot--One Kill...And like Some have already told you...Most states have outlawed the 22-250 for Big Game.....and for the reason I just gave you......

well my old Remington 788 in 22-250 has taken just a few northern white tails in its day , maybe not the best cal for the job but IF you do your part it will do its ,
first off do NOT use a boat tail bullet, ( they come apart to easy) use only flat base bellets (they stay together better) min. would be a Hornaday 55 gr spire point at about 3600fps
second keep your shots short 150 yards max, those little bullets run out of steam to fast to take longer shots, try for head-neck or only side thru the heart lung area, bullet placement is the key so stay away from angle shots or shooting at running deer,,, use a good scope
third practice alot!!!! remember it maybe a great 300- 400 yard varmint round but your shooting at deer now , you don't want to screw up , good luck and check your state laws to make sure you're legal0 -
Missouri is another state that allows 22 centerfires for deer. Bad choice but legal. Hunter223, if you have to use the 22-250 (which I to discourage) work up a load with the Barnes X-Bullet. At least there is a chance the X-Bullet wil stay together. 0 -
WV states that ANY centerfire rifle cartridge is legal for deer.
That even includes the wimpy 22 Hornet.
Shot placement is the key.
The larger calibers just give you more margin for error.
There has been many a deer taken with clean one shot kills with a 22 LR.
Just have to hit them in the right place.

It is not about,"What you throw", it IS about "Where you put what you throw"! If I could have my choice and the shot I wanted, the lowly .22 Long Rifle will kill anything the "48". Realisticly, my choice is .257 Roberts Imp. and 75GR Hornady HP. Killed (I like "harvested" better), more animals than I could count. Whatever, your choice, make it count. GW. 0
