Springfield Armory M1A Standard #MA9106 NIB
I searched Gunbroker.com for MA9106, i.e., Springfield Armory Standard M1A, Black Fiberglass Stock and found six. Prices for credit card purchases were $1075, $1096, and $1107. One at $1020 for money order or certified check. Two were pointlessly offered with starting prices of $0.01, but with an unspecified reserve price. Springfield Armory's MSRP is $1319, but no one pays MSRP -- not for cars and not for firearms. The above prices are nothing special.

It sounds like you're trying to ask, " what is a fair price to pay ". The best way to look at any buy is by saying to yourself, how bad do I want it?" If you want it now, you pay what people are asking. If you would "like to have ", you wait and look for bargains. If it strikes your fancy and you're trying to fit it in your budget, you advertise like I do sometimes and say " wanted to buy for $XXX.00" in these forums and you might get an answer.

I'm essentially asking what is an good price to pay for a new Springfield Armory Standard M1A w/Black Fiberglass Stock? That is, at what price would the purchase be a good value for this type of item. I'm trying to discern a good price from the ordinary prices. So far what I have seen for this item are prices close to the MSRP, very few bids, and virtually no winning bids. I interpret this to mean that these are not 'good' prices.

As a dealer my price on a single unit purchase for a MA9106 is $1,057 direct from Springfield Armory, although wholsealers offer deeper discounts that I can (and do) take advantage of. The MSRP of $1319 offers me about 20% profit potential (lower than offerd on most high dollar firearms) and these are VERY popular rifles. Here in Kalifornia, where the M1A is one of the few semi automatics still available, these rifles move easily at or near retail with little or no discount offered. ALL four of the prices which you quoted and felt were too high were right around dealer cost and all seem VERY fair to me! I can assure you that I'd NEVER sell you an M1A at any of those quoted prices...it is far too easy to get more money out of those guns!. What kind of discounts are you expecting to receive??? If you are looking to spend below $1,000 you'll have to scare up your own closeout, private sale, or gun show special. They are out there, but be prepared to put in some effort and do some leg work!

Mr. Christian I second your opinion, I work in a gun store and the truth is that it is a buyer's market out there and almost every consumer gets a "good deal"!
Let's put it this way, if it is lower than "MSRP" it is a good deal!
Why would any individual open a store if they didn't make a good profit?[8D]

Was in the business for a while in the 80's. Are problem was a local high volume dealer/wholesaler located about 40 miles away.
He sold his stuff like M1A's, for close to our wholesale, no more then 10% over.
We would have these jerks come and "DEMAND" we match his prices, "OR ELSE THEY WOULD TAKE THERE BUSINESS ELSEWARE"
Basically they were to lazy to drive the 40 miles, and figured they could intimidate us, into cutting them a sweetheart deal.
Remenber the dealer has to make a profit to stay in business. Your just fantasizing if you figure on picking up something as popular as the M1A at wholesale!0 -
This has been very helpful. I appreciate all the responses. Gave me a much better appreciation of the following items found on Gunbroker.com; the prices do not include a 3% uplift for credit cards nor shipping and insurance.
