semi-auto m-16 or ak47 what is better?
I have wanted to know what is more a better buy and what is more durable an m-16 or an ak-47. Is one more accurate?[?]

Uhhhhh....ummmm..dunno, you might want to be a little more specific. The AR is far more accurate than the AK and durability would probably depend on usage and maintanence. With regular cleaning and lubrication either will last a long time. Best choice....buy both[:D]

1. Better buy, that depends on which you really want. Considering they are both full auto, expect to pay thousands, unless, of course, you were talking about semi-auto versions of these full auto weapons. Semi-Auto versions like AK47/S and AR15, and the clones thereof.
2. More durable, AK47
3. More accurate, M16

It also matters as to thier use, they are two different calibers.
.223 (5.56 x 45) if I remember right and 7.62 x 39.
The AK's are typically cheaper.
If it were me, I'd get the AR-15 (civilian M-16) and then get a SKS to shoot the bigger bullets. That way you have an excellent rifle with good accuracy with the AR-15 and still can shoot the bigger bullet for close-range deer and just to fling some mil-surplus lead. Then later get the AK to fill out your collection...

If your going to buy a civilian model ( semi-auto ), it's really a choice of which one is more appealing to the eye. The guys above are right about accuracy vs. durability. If it's going to be a gun that you take out and just rip off a couple hundred rds. for the fun of it, either one will do the job. You'll have to keep the M16 alot cleaner than the AK47 and you can still buy 75 & 100 rd. drums for the AK47. If I was going to war, My choice would be an AK47. Just ask some of the guys who were in Nam, alot of them turned their M16's back in and used AK's ( this was frowned upon by some plus the fact that the AK's had a distinctive sound and rythem to them when they were fired that other U.S. troops may have thought they were VC. Most of the guys that I knew who used them were either Rangers or LRP's who were so far behind enemy lines, that it did'nt matter. Plus they were tired of their M16's malfunctioning or jamming ). I love my AK! The trigger pull has been lightend and it never miss's a beat. But, since you won't be dragging yours through the jungle, it's your choice. Go to your local gunshow and check them both out, pick them up, shoulder them, see which one fits you better ( if you have really short arms, you'll love the AK, but you can buy thicker butt pads for them if your arms are long ). I like the AR types over the AK types. That being said i have both a SAR3 and a M15 from Armalite. I shoot them both and like them both. [8D]

In combat, I'd prefer the AK...well, in most situations anyway. Fro accuracy, I'd go with the M-16. In the civilian world, I'd go with the semi-auto AR-15, Les Baer to be specific.[:)]

I was in Vietnam. Give me the Russian AK. It may be less accurate than the M-16 but it is more reliable. Isn't the m-16 and AR-15 really just high powered .22's ?

I'll take the AK over the AR-15 just because of the reliability and cheaper ammo.

If you just wanna punch holes in paper or hunt varmints I'd go with an AR-15. You can impress your friends with the nice groups and dead varmints. If you want a sturdy, reliable, cheap, inexpensive to shoot, rough and ready rifle, get an AK. But if you want reliable and more accurate than the AK and still relatively inexpensive to shoot get you a Cetme. 0
