J C Higgins Mdl 30 Help

Hello Ya'll
A older friend of mine has a jc higgins mdl 30 which he bought new in 1952 I think. It is a semi auto 22 that has a sling that pulls out of the stock. Does anyone know who made this gun for sears? Does anyone know what the crossover model is to the sears line? He needs a new butt plate for it. Thankyou Beltfed

  One book I have says the Md 30 was made by High Standard, it also says it's a 22 pump. You might try www.e-gunparts.com.

  Yep. High Standard all right. I have the pump. It is the model 33. Yours is semi-auto. Good chance the buttplate is interchangeable from the model 29 through 34. High Standard did not make an equivalent model in semi-auto that I am aware of. The Flite King pump was the same as the 33 JCH. I think that Numrich (e-gunparts.com) lists the JCH models.

  A Seller here on GB recently claimed that this design was built by H&R, but He Dog and I have done some digging and can find no support for this claim. (And the H&R model number he gave is for a bolt shotgun.) Sears owned a big chunk of High Standard stock at one point, and HS made a bunch of JCH rifles, shotguns, and handguns.
  
  The only JCH .22 semi-auto that had a comparable High Standard product was the M25, which was a HS A-100 series. All of the other JCH .22s are of the M28, M29, M30, M31, M32, M34 design, for which there was no HS counterpart. Pumps were M33 and M35, and essentially the same as the HS pump. (Sears models and model numbers are a little confusing. They had models, like the Model 29, and within models the had model numbers, which were five to seven digit numbers. For example, the Model 29 has at least 4 different model numbers, 583.78, 583.79, 583.85, and 583.2900.)
  
  Going throught the parts schematics, most all of the buttplates have the same part number, #344, which is the number for the M30. M30 buttplate screws ar #345. There is also the buttplate trim, which has a couple of different numbers, for the M30, #404. If you can't get the parts fom GPC (or they want an exorbitant price, not unusual with them) take your friend's gun with you to a decent sized gun show, and you should find the correct parts pretty cheap. With your friend's rifle in hand, you can check the fit. I can't remember a gun show that didn't have a couple of tables with boxes of buttplates and grip caps.

  The JC Higgins Model 30 was, and forever will be, a High Standard product.
  
  We keep a good supply of parts for the JC Higgins guns, including the Model 30. They usually sell out pretty fast.
