M 1 Carbine

A friend of mine has a m1 with the following marking we would like to know is this a military issue or a repoduction and who is it made by. it has U S Carbine M1 on the front of the receiver and Natl Ord on the back the serial #is 23791 stamped in front of the rear sight. Thanks Steve

  A friend of mine has a m1 carbine with the markings of U S Carbine on the receiver and Natl Ord on the back of the receiver and the serial no of 23791 stamped just in front of the rear sight. is this a military carbine or is it a repo. and any idea who it is made by. Thanks Steve

  "National Ordnance Inc" was located in South El Monte California. They produced these M1 Carbines for the civilian market from the early 1960's to the mid 1970's.
