H&K USP 9mm Compact Question
My dealer has a H&K USP 9mm Compact that I really want to buy..The problem is that instead of a decocker it has a safety for cocked and locked carry. Can this be changed to a decocker? Since the hammer is small and, at rest, enclosed in the slide, it seems to me that if one is not careful you could shoot a round off..As always your help is appreciated..Thanks

I have used 'cocked and locked' for many years in 1911 style pistols. It is unusual to find the variant on the USP (other than DAO) that doesn't have the decocker. Did you try the safety lever in the direction opposite of the safety?

Could be that you have the variant for cocked and locked. I'd consider that to be a real find. You can always get it changed if you don't like it.

HK USP come in serval variations. The most common is Var 1.
Var 1 offers: Single action or Double action first pull, Single action follow up shots, decocking, cocked&locked, decocked&locked.
And that is why I carry my H&K USP 45C Var 1 w/ night sights. I must admit the DA pull is on the heavy side, I prefer to roll cocked&locked. The SA pull is pretty good.0 -
This was the first time I handled a H&K USP pistol, it was comfortable in my hand and I liked it's lite weight too.. It didn't feel bulky and I believe that I would enjoy shooting this well made firearm.. So after work today I will stop by my dealer and purchase it..In the spring I am transfering to a State that has a carry law and I believe that the USP just might be my carry gun..Again, thanks for all the info...Andy 0
