    I have heard that if you stage the trigger when you pull it you can have light hits. You have to pull the trigger straight thru in order to have reliable ignition. I read this in an article about Taurus revolvers.

    If you check carefully you will see that when fired single action the hammer is more rearward than when fired double action. It will therefore will strike the primer with more force on single action.
    You will need a stiffer hammer spring to reliably fire your handloads double action.
