348 Winchester

How rare or desirable is the 348 Winchester? I know very little about this round. Thanks. John

  What is a 348 Winchester model 71 lever action worth. It is in fair shape

  The round itself is not particularly desirable..it is a somewhat obsolescent 260 grain bullet going at freight train speeds compared to the present day hyper-sonic magnums which are now in vogue. HOWEVER the rifle that shoots it, the Winchester Model 71, is PARTICULARLY desirable. If you have a Model 71, especially one of the pre war ones, then you have a diamond in the rough. They are one of those Models of Winchester that only very recently caught fire and their values are just heading constantly upwards. Beach

  i owned the browning remake of the 71 and no one wanted to buy it. i ended up using it to trade back to a gun shop to get a better gun. they kick like a horse.

  Win made a full sized and sporter style. They had a steel butt plate and lyman rear peep, some a tang sight. I've seen them in average condition go for $1200-more. One's in real good shape command lots more...upwards of $2000.
  Have heard the Mdl 71 is popular in Alaska. Some 'smiths convert the gun to a 405 Alaskan. Seems they like lever repeaters and the 40 cal rd is more effective than a 34 cal gun.
