Firearms, Modern, Rifles, Semi-Auto - Prices?
I checked Going, Going, Gone for Firearms, Modern, Rifles, Semi-Auto. There were approximately 50 items listed, but bids for only four, and only one item actually had bids exceeding their reserve. Similar statistics yesterday evening and the day before.
What's the explanation? Are the asking prices realistic? Are there no buyers?

well if you kinda more specific on what type of gun someone could probly tell you if it was a good price or not but its kinda right now i guess but wait till its freezing cold and no one wabts to get out and all they do is search the listings maybe they will buy buy buy 0 -
Unfortunately, GB has a number of sellers that don't really want to sell anything. They have an outragous price and have hit the 50 times relist button.
Since GB (God, I hate to have to say this) doesn't charge for an item not sold, nor a relist, some sellers have no incentive to put decent prices on the items. They just keep waiting for the big kill instead of eating every day.

I checked prices for Springfield Armory M1 Garands and M1As, both new and used, at local gun dealers in the Northern Virginia area. Prices are comparable or better to what I see on Gunbroker.com. I figure local sales taxes are roughly comparable to shipping and handling charges for purchases through Gunbroker.com. The difference is at a local dealer I can inspect the merchandise, and with Gunbroker.com I have to trust a picture and description. The notion of providing a money order or certified check for what is not a cash-and-carry transaction implies risk -- I would expect a better price for the greater risk. 0 -

Guys this isn't the bargain shoppers site. This is a good site to find, the hard to find things. Yes, while it is true that you have some guys that keep running ad over and over. A lot of auctions that sell, isn't the every day stuff. If you want a bargain you have to look every day and keep your eyes open. Bargain are here. But don't think that everybody that sells here is giving guns away. Most people here value them and only sell if they get the right price. And some cases when they wnat something new. 0 -
Well,I kind of agree with Skyking. There are way too many relisted items. If you seriously want to sell something then put a lower starting price on it & let the market set your price.AFTER ALL GB IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN AUCTION SITE NOT A I'M TRYING TO FIND A SUCKER WITH A LOT OF MONEY SITE....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0 -
All I can say is keep your eyes open. A vigilant buyer with patience can find exactly what they wan't here on GB. I never seem to want run of the mill stuff, always some odd-ball stuff that hasn't been made for awhile and of course it always has to be 98% or better and yet still priced within reason.
I have always been able to find what I am wanting here, sometimes in a week or two, other times it takes me months. Yes, I look at other gun auction sites too, but I've made over 75% of my online gun purchases through GB.
Having a predictable enemy is better than having an ally you can't trust.0 -
This is a complex issue. Why should anyone be able to dictate what I ask for my property? If I have no pressing need to sell, why can't I put on a price that may take a long time to realize? Why can't I wait for that one sucker - er, uninformed buyer?
On the other hand, I have considered that GunBroker could put a restriction on the number of times a seller may relist the same item without paying a fee or lowering the price by a certain percentage. That would be about impossible to police because sellers could quit listing when the decision point is reached, and then relist the same gun with a different description and let it run until the decision point is reached again, etc.. (That big auction site forbids high capacity magazines, yet they are listed constantly with desciptions that those in the know, know are inaccurate so as to meet the rules of listing and thus get around the rules.)
Perhaps the solution could be to charge a listing fee like Guns (made in) America. (Disregard parenthetical expression added as an edit to the original message, which is necessary to keep the GB thought police from substituting asterisks if the real name of a competing gun sale site is used.) If the item is listed and sells, a fee is paid. If the item is not relisted, I THINK (not sure) you are charged a fee on the assumption that the item sold.
However, the downside of that is that it would discourage listings, which is counterproductive for GB. It is to GB's advantage to have as many listings as possible, because that increases the chances for a sale, and thus a fee.
I will admit that I am jealous when a price far above market is paid by an ignorant buyer, but what business is it of mine? No one forced me to buy the item. I can exercise my right to pass on an overpriced item. Buyer beware! Don't the ignorant buy at their own risk?
I think the system just has to stay the way it is, and we should quit worrying about something that does not effect us.0 -

We live in a society of loosers and suckers--all of em being anti gun idiots. If were to do business on a gun enthusiest website then lets take care of our own.
That is the one major problem I see with GB--to many people trying to screw someone over instead of being decent to our own--the pro gun people.

I think that these sellers just like to see their names on the screen, not really interested in selling. I went through 5 pages,- 250 items, 2 days from ending and no bids yet. GB has allowed the auction site to be used as a "Things for sale at retail and above" listing, but that's their decision. A listing charge would probably change that.
A friend sells machine tools, starts them out low, gets bids immediately and almost ALWAYS reaches and exceeds reserve if any, and sells everything. Rarely needs to re-list.
I bought an item that had been listed 12 times,- yes, 12 times!
I asked him a question, he didn't re-list and sold me the item at my offer.
